The date of La Fête de la Musique

La fête de la musique will be held on Thursday, 21st June, 2018. The date of June 21st was chosen symbolically. It corresponds to the summer solstice, the first day of the summer season and therefore the end of spring. It is a beautiful way to celebrate the arrival of the good weather and to start the season of evenings in terraces or on the Quays de Seine in Paris.

Origin of La fête de la Musique

The first Festival of Music took place in 1982 after the election of President François Mitterrand and at the initiative of then Minister of Culture Jack Lang. The first edition of this evening was so successful in France, that it has been internationalized little by little. Today, it takes place in more than a hundred countries around the world on the same day of the year. In the streets, amateur or professional musicians make us vibrate.

Security during La fête de la Musique

In the context of attacks, the Ministry of the Interior announces every year the deployment of a drastic security system. In order to ensure the safety of the 3,000 concerts organized, some 7,000 soldiers and 48,000 police and gendarmes are mobilized throughout France.
